Here's an old world remedy brought over by my grandma from Russia. It is awesome and never faild to work...it literally will kill any flu-like or cold-like symptoms within a few days.
Ingredients:
Sourdough bread
Bacon
Garlic (one clove per slice of bread)
Cream Cheese (to taste)
1. Cook up bacon in a pan...when browned remove bacon and place bread in pan to sop up the grease and toast. (yes, you heard me right - this is what they did in WWII to keep from starving)
2. When bread is nicely toasted, spread on cream cheese (or none if you prefer).
3. Slice up garlic, put on top of cream cheese.
4. Eat, enjoy (wince) and repeat.

Re: Old World Cold Remedy
Mon, January 16, 2006 - 10:17 AMhey. i think it is really just the garlic that is the cold and flu remedy. recently i had a cold. it went away in about 4 days. then suddenly i started feeling a sinus infection coming on; you know, the pressure etc. the next day my co-worker told me to eat raw garlic. i did, and the next day the pain was gone. i ate a couple more cloves the next day just to be sure! :-) -

Mon, January 16, 2006 - 12:12 PMhere's one I can't stand but my buddy swears by it. Take about 6 or 7 cloves of garlic and put them into a pint of Crack Daniels err Jack Daniels Bourbon Wiskey and let it sit for at least 6 months. Then when you get a cold drink it down garlic and all and go to bed. Knocks you out and cures you overnight. Personally I'd rather just eat the garlic and have a bowl of chicken noodle soup along with a shot of Green death (Nyquil) and sleep it off, but he claims it works everytime.

Re: Old World Cold Remedy
Wed, January 18, 2006 - 10:02 AMWhiskey is a great cold cure - it clears the sinuses and the sugar content gives you a quick pick me up in the immune system way. Plus it stimulates your liver/kidneys to get rid of impurities in your blood which include bacteria from being sick! :)
And remember, dear garlic friends, that "green death" is something like 80 proof anyway - so you're actually doing the same thing to your body - just with a different taste.

P.S. My cold remedy:
Hot water (to fill a mug)
1/2 shot of Southern Comfort
1 slice of lemon with 6-8 cloves punctured into the flesh
Place the lemon in the Southern Comfort and pour water over. DRINK WHILE STILL HOT!
I've heard the garlic old world remedy is great too - I'll have to try it next time a cold comes in to stay. -
